managing the senior years

i've been a voyeur of my husband's old age for a very long time. he recently passed away at the amazing age of 96. it is a process that requires enormous strength, unconditional love and the knowledge that try as one may we cannot control someone else destiny as well as our own.
paul newman once said that getting old is not for sissies..he knew where he was coming from.....no one prepares us for this process. watching the one you adore slowly fade away. it is horrific. yet when one was priviledged to have a partner for 63 years there suddenly becomes an awareness that one was priviledged to have this gift for so long.
my advice therefore to all who travel this road is to appreciate what you had, get on with your life. involve yourself with friends, make new ones...keep your mind and body active and treasure whatever time you have. don't waste life.

where's the anger coming from

i have always been interested in cinema, films and the people who inhabit it. when i was growing up.....a long, long time ago, the entertainment that filled one's life was the movies.....t.v. was a long time in coming. movie stars were our idols...their lives something we dreamed about. what was non existent was a microscopive look into their everyday activities similar to what we see today....which brings me to my subject . what has become of the respect for privacy of our "celebrities" when did the public get the unalienated right to be voyeurs of every move of film and music stars...what gives us the right to disect their every move and spew venom about their actions on the internet. are we so bored with our own lives that living vicariously through stars is what fills our appetites. are we empowered through the internet because of our anonimity to disect men and women who act for a living. something must be seriously missing from our own lives to accept this sort of behavior......why are internet participants so angry about so many things....they are using celebrities as human pinadas.....i think instead of being critical about other people's foibles we should look at ourselves in the mirror.

jude and conpany

while adam is covering italy so is jude law. he, sienna miller and his three offsprings handsome raff, lovely iris and the world's most beautiful cherub rudy are living it up for a month in southern italy....this must be the year of italia...jude has been in ponza, otrano, lecce and practically every gorgeous beach at the tip of the boot. the waters are crystal aquamarine and the rocks and crags are breathtaking....i'll tell you some people know how to live.

adam in italy

so my grandson adam is living like a pasha in italia. apparently he is on a yacht sailing around corsica....elba....no he did not encounter napoleon....lovely food and drink lolling in the sun whilst doing his art work....his travels will take him to berlin, london and sicilly...let's not forget florence and perhaps a bit of tuscany...thanks to wonderful friends he met while studying art in florence this trip of a lifetime has become a reality.....all this while i suffer at home looking over the intracoastal and atlantic ocean from my little apartment in florida...ah to be young and adventurous....adam my hat's off to you for your ingenuity and ability to make good friends.

my grandaughter

i've watched her evolve from the most endearing, kindly, curious little girl into a full blown woman...yesterday when i opened my door i saw this beautiful, luminescent young woman of 29....oh the road traveled.....sara lives in new jersey so visits can't be too frequent. she teaches biology, coaches soccer and designs jewelry so we are talking about a very busy young lady....when she speaks i am enthralled by her. it is enough just to look, listen and know that she is actually there and not a telephone voice..

london

for the years i have been on a jude law site i have made dozens of friendships with women from all over the world....when it was announced in 2008 that jude would be part of the donmar warehouse season we immediately bought tickets not knowing whether getting to london was even feasible. my husband is infirmed..,.who would take care of him in order for me to make such a trip. enter adam my grandson. "not to worry grandma...it will be a oiece of cake" one of my firends who is an attorney from madrid arranged with jude's public relations to have us visit with him backstage at the wyndham theatre on july 28th 2009. my niece doris a travel agent made all reservations for me and off i went.
law's portrayal of hamlet was nothing short of brilliant. a new and fresh approach. it was very physical like a ballet dancer. this was not a morose prince. this was angry man.......after watching this performance we went backstage....my friends from literally all over the planet and i had jude law all to ourselves..that friends is some kind of treat. the man not only is a vision but charismatic to the point of oh my god.....he's very intelligent, great vocabulary and so interested in what one is saying...he listens and he remembers. well anyone who remembers mr. shakespeares plethora of lines has to remember.....it was an evening that will remain in my bank of memories for a lifetime.....thank you adam for making it possible.
